Bavarian Wheat
Artisan Brewery
“Bare Naked Beers”
ABV 5.3%

The Artisan Bavarian Wheat Beer has a bright white head, which begins quite fine and soon fades. There’s a good carbonation throughout. It has a cloudy, corn yellow colour typical of unfiltered wheat beers, and a soft wheat aroma, backed by bread dough and, oddly, the suggestion of ham.

On the palate it has the classic, sour note from wheat beer, which leads to tingling sourdough and coriander spice bitterness around the edges of the tongue. While it has the thick body of a wheat beer, it still carries across the signature Artisan Brewery feature of being sharp and crisp, an impressive balance.

It moves on to a long, vibrant finish, with sweet fruit juices countered by tart gooseberries, and the spicy coriander pops back in for a final bow. It keeps giving long after the drink is finished, with a sharp bitterness deposited on the tip of the tongue and lip-smacking fruit flavours left behind on the gums and lips. Overall, it isn’t complicated, but a good expression of the fairly bland wheat beer style.
